Prospective New Catholic Air Force Chaplain Ordained a Priest

BOSTON—Father Carignan Rouse, 2d Lt, USAFR, a United States Air Force chaplain candidate, was ordained a priest on Saturday, May 18, in Boston. His ordination was celebrated at a 10:00 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross through the laying on of hands and the prayer of consecration invoking the Holy Spirit by His Eminence, Sean Cardinal O’Malley.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With the United States Military facing a desperate shortage of Catholic chaplains, the Military Council of Catholic Women (MCCW) is stepping up to make a difference. The MCCW has just donated $50,000 to establish an endowed scholarship for seminarians in formation for priesthood and military chaplaincy. ATLANTA, GA. – Father Michael Metz, a candidate to join the United States Army as a chaplain, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, June 16, in Atlanta, GA. Father Metz is on track to serve on active duty with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) once he completes three years of pastoral service in his home Archdiocese of Atlanta.

Catholic Extension Announces Phase Out of Funding to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA

WASHINGTON, DC – At a recent Board of Governors meeting, the Board of Catholic Extension decided to discontinue the approved mission diocese status of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). This means that the AMS will no longer benefit from the distributions of the Chicago-based charity. Over $1.7 million has been donated to the AMS through Catholic Extension since 2006.  Most of the funding benefitted seminary formation for future Catholic chaplains.

Memorial Mass Draws 2,250 Faithful to the National Shrine

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Approximately 2,250 Catholics gathered in the Great Upper Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Pentecost Sunday for a 4:30 p.m. (EDST) Mass to honor the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, particularly those who paid the ultimate price for American liberty.The 24th Annual Memorial Mass of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), which was attended by service members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, opened with a posting of the colors and the singing of the National Anthem.
