SALUTE Magazine Takes Top Honor in 2020 International Catholic Press Awards

WASHINGTON, DC – SALUTE, the hard-copy news magazine published quarterly by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA(AMS), has been honored with a first-place certificate in the 2020 Catholic Press Awards, sponsored by the Catholic Press Association of the United States and Canada. The judge’s panel, which consists of media and academic professionals, deemed the Summer 2019 edition’s color cover (pictured) the year’s best for a small-size magazine, earning SALUTEthe top honor in the “Best Cover for Color” category. The award citation recognizes SALUTE Editor Jo Ann Redmond for her outstanding work.

Archdiocese Celebrates Priestly Ordination of Prospective New Army Chaplain

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS –Father Miguel Flores-Perez, (1LT) USAR, a prospective United States Army chaplain, was ordained a Catholic priest on Saturday, June 27, in Round Rock, TX. Father Flores-Perez, 42, plans eventually to serve on active duty as a chaplain in the U.S. Army with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) after an initial three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Austin.

Catholic U.S. Navy Chaplain Candidate Ordained a Priest in Massachusetts on Saturday

FALL RIVER, MA – Father Steven Booth, a prospective U.S. Navy chaplain, was ordained a priest on Saturday, June 13, in Fall River, MA. Bishop Edgar Moreira da Cunha ordained the new priest at Saint Mary’s Cathedralthrough the laying of hands and the prayer of consecration invoking the Holy Spirit. Three Catholic U.S. Military Chaplain Candidates Ordained Saturday

WASHINGTON, DC – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) is celebrating the weekend ordinations of three prospective Catholic United States Military chaplains. On Saturday, May 30, Fathers Joseph Baltz and James Dvorak were ordained priests, and the Reverend Mr. Callan Sweeney was ordained a transitional deacon in preparation for priestly ordination next year. All three plan to serve on active duty with AMS endorsement and faculties following three years of pastoral service in their home dioceses: Father Baltz and the Rev. Mr. Sweeney in the Army; Father Dvorak in the Navy.

Archbishop Timothy Broglio to Join Brother Bishops in Re-Consecration of U.S. and Canada to Blessed Mother

WASHINGTON, D.C. — His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., will virtually join his brother Catholic bishops throughout the United States and Canada on May 1, 2020, in renewing the consecration of the two nations to the care of the Blessed Mother in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 3:00 p.m. (EDT) re-consecration will be led in Los Angeles by Archbishop José H. Gomez, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, with U.S. and Canadian bishops joining in their respective dioceses. Archbishop Broglio will take part in the prayer of consecration from the main chapel of the Edwin Cardinal O’Brien Pastoral Center in Washington, D.C., home base for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The AMS will live stream Archbishop Broglio’s participation on its Facebook page beginning at 3:00 p.m. EDT. The faithful are invited to take part online.

Prospective Catholic U.S. Navy Chaplain Ordained Transitional Deacon in Fort Worth, Texas

FORTH WORTH, TX — The Rev. Mr. Jason Allan was among a half-dozen candidates for the Catholic priesthood ordained transitional deacons on Thursday, March 19, in a solemn Mass at St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth. A seminarian at the Theological College, the national seminary of the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, Deacon Allan is on track to become a U.S. Navy chaplain with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new deacon, 26, hopes to be ordained a priest on May 15, 2021, and go on active duty after three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Fort Worth.

DENVER – The Reverend Mr. Anthony Davis, ENS, USN, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Saturday, Feb. 22, in Denver, CO. He hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the United States Navy with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new deacon is tentatively scheduled to be ordained a priest next year and hopes to go on active duty following a three-year period of pastoral service in his home Archdiocese of Denver.
