Veterans Day Mass

Archbishop Broglio gave the homily at a Mass to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I on Veterans Day at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine.

Attendees witnessed a presentation of 28 historical U.S. flags ranging from those used during the American Revolution to our modern day Stars and Stripes. There were also readings from noted Catholic poet Joyce Kilmer, a World War I soldier and Knight of Columbus who was killed in the conflict, and from Pope Benedict XV’s 1914 encyclical, Ad Beatissimi Apostolorum (Appealing for Peace).
