That is the main topic Catholic military chaplains will explore over the next couple of months in a series of convocations starting this week in San Diego.
The runners of Team AMS will raise awareness and financial support for the Archdiocese by running in the 35th annual Army Ten-Miler on Oct. 13, 2019.
The annual Memorial Mass for Father Vincent R. Capodanno, MM, United States Navy Chaplain and Vietnam War hero, will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Michigan Avenue Northeast, Washington, D.C., 20017. Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio will be the principal celebrant and homilist.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — All who support the free exercise of Catholic faith in the U.S. Military have a unique opportunity this weekend to do their part. The occasion is Sunday, July 21, the 34th birthday of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA(AMS), which Pope Saint John Paul II erected in 1985 to provide pastoral care to Catholics in the U.S. Armed Forces. GREEN BAY, WI – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is celebrating the priestly ordination of a prospective new Catholic U.S. Army chaplain. Father Matthew Faucett, (2LT), USAR, was ordained a priest on Saturday, June 22, in Green Bay, WI. Father Faucett (center in photo with Archbishop Broglio and Bishop Ricken) hopes to go on active duty with AMS endorsement and faculties once he completes three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Green Bay.
WASHINGTON, DC – Ten Catholic priests from religious communities and U.S. dioceses throughout the United States are gathered in Washington, DC, this week for a five-day retreat aimed at helping them determine if they are called to serve as U.S. Military chaplains. The retreat, called “For God and Country: a Call to Serve Those Who Serve,” is meant to inspire participating priests as they discern this “vocation within a vocation.”
ARLINGTON, VA – The National Catholic Committee on Scouting has awarded 18-year old Eagle Scout and high school graduate Joseph Lepak of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall a $2,000 college scholarship through the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Scout Scholarship Fund. Mr. Lepak is one of seven recipients to receive a Doerr scholarship this year, and he is the first member of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), to be so honored. The AMS Office of Evangelization encourages scouting as an effective way to promote a comprehensive approach to Catholic Youth Ministry. The development of leadership skills along with opportunities to grow in faith, through religious emblems and activities, makes scouting a dynamic opportunity for military-connected youth. Mr. Lepak was nominated for the scholarship by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services.
WASHINGTON, DC – His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, has awarded the Medal of the Archdiocese, its highest honor, to two prominent military Catholics. Father Paul K. Hurley, CH (GEN), USA (Retired), received the medal in a May 30 ceremony at Fort Myer celebrating his retirement as U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains, a post he has held for the past four years. At the U.S Army Garrison Hawaii, meanwhile, the garrison’s Catholic Pastoral Life Coordinator, Mrs. Tracey Harger (pictured), received the medal on June 11.
INDIANAPOLIS, IND – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is celebrating the priestly ordination of a prospective new Catholic U.S. Air Force chaplain. Father Vincent (Vinny) Gillmore, 2d Lt, USAFR, was ordained a priest on Saturday, June 1, in Indianapolis, IN. Father Gillmore, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, hopes to go on active duty with AMS endorsement and faculties once he completes three years of pastoral service in his home Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
ARLINGTON, VA – Father Sean Koehr, a U.S. Navy chaplain candidate, was ordained a priest on Saturday, June 8, in Arlington, VA. Father Koehr, 29, completed his priestly formation at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, PA, where he earned a Master of Divinity Degree and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Theology. He hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the U.S. Navy with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS) after three years of pastoral service in his home Diocese of Arlington.
RIO RANCHO, NM – The Reverend Mr. Joseph Baltz, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional Deacon on Thursday, June 6, in his home Archdiocese of Santa Fe, NM. He hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the United States Army with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). Deacon Baltz’s diaconal ordination was celebrated at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Rio Rancho, NM, through the laying of hands and the prayer of consecration invoking the Holy Spirit by Archbishop John C. Wester of Santa Fe. AMS Auxiliary Bishop Joseph L. Coffey, CHC, CAPT (Sel), USN, concelebrated the ordination Mass.
SALINAS, CA – Two prospective Catholic U.S. Air Force Chaplains were ordained transitional deacons on Friday, May 31, 2019, in Salinas, CA.
