Monsignor Jeffrey G. Laible Takes Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity as Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia

WASHINGTON, D.C. — It’s official: the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has a new Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia. On Thursday, July 1, 2021, Monsignor Jeffrey G. Laible of the Diocese of Peoria, IL, made the requisite Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity as he assumes the new role. He succeeds Monsignor John J.M. Foster, J.C.D., who is returning to his home Diocese of Stockton, CA, to serve as pastor of the Cathedral of the Annunciation following eight years of productive service to the AMS.

Thirteen Men Gather for Discernment Retreat on Possible Vocations as U.S. Military Chaplains

WASHINGTON, DC — Thirteen men from many service branches of the United States Armed Forces will gather here this weekend for a June 24-27 discernment retreat aimed at helping them determine if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is holding the semi-annual retreat at Theological College, the national seminary of the Catholic University of America. The prospective chaplain candidates include three now serving in the Army, two in the Marine Corps, one in the Navy, two in the Air Force, and five civilians.

LINCOLN, NE – The Reverend Mr. Liam O’Shea-Creal, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Friday, May 28, in Lincoln, NE. He plans eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the U.S. Navy with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The new deacon is on track to be ordained a priest next year. Annual Memorial Mass Returns to Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Sunday for the first time in two years, in a sign of progress against COVID, Archbishop Timothy Broglio celebrated the annual Memorial Mass at its usual location: in the Great Upper Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Preaching from the ambo, Archbishop Broglio reflected on the Solemnity of the Ascension, urging believers to accept Christ’s call “to go forth, be and experience the signs of the power of God, and offer hope.”
