U.S. Navy Chaplain Candidate Ordained Transitional Deacon in New York

LANCASTER, NY – The Reverend Mr. Christopher J. Wild, LTJG, USN, a candidate for the Catholic priesthood and United States Military chaplaincy, was ordained a transitional deacon on Saturday, May 17, in his home Diocese of Buffalo, NY. The new deacon, 27, is on track to be ordained a priest next year and hopes eventually to serve as a Catholic chaplain in the U.S. Navy, providing pastoral care to Catholic sailors and their families with endorsement and faculties from the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS).

Marriage Enrichment Retreat Draws Record Turnout in Germany

WALDFISCHBACH-BURGALBEN, GERMANY — The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), welcomed a record thirty-one U.S. Air Force couples to Waldfischbach-Burgalben, Germany, this past weekend for an AMS Marriage Enrichment Retreat. The couples, from the Holy Family Catholic Community at Ramstein Air Base, about 20 miles away, all participated in the April 11-12 retreat at the Maria Rosenberg Pilgrimage Site and Spiritual Center — a site run by the Diocese of Speyer in southwest Germany. Fathers Emeka C. Okwuosa, Ch, Capt, USAF, and Joseph Deichert, Ch, Col, USAF (Ret.), worked with the planning committee and the facilitator, AMS Vice-Chancellor for Evangelization Mark Moitoza, Th.D., D.Min., to organize the retreat.

MENLO PARK, CA – A record-high thirty-seven prospective Catholic U.S. Military chaplains gathered at St. Patrick’s Seminary this past weekend for the annual spring discernment retreat for young men discerning a possible “vocation within a vocation” as both Catholic priests and military chaplain officers on active duty. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), holds two of these retreats each year—one in the spring on the West Coast and another in the fall on the East Coast—as part of its ongoing strategy to relieve a shortage of Catholic priests on active duty.

Archbishop Broglio Consecrates and Blesses Sacramental Oils at Chrism Mass

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Tuesday evening, April 8, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D., Archbishop for the Military Services, USA, and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), blessed and consecrated sacred oils for sacramental use over the coming year in Catholic communities on U.S. Military sites worldwide, and in the nation’s VA Medical Centers. The rites took place at the annual Chrism Mass of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), where dozens of bishops, priests, and chaplains serving the U.S. Military and the VA also renewed their ministerial commitment to Jesus Christ and His Church.
