Auxiliary Bishops William Muhm and Joseph Coffey Ordained at National Shrine

WASHINGTON, D.C.— It’s official: the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), USA, now has two new auxiliary bishops. Bishops William (Bill) J. Muhm and Joseph L. Coffey were ordained Monday—the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord—at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. His Excellency, the Most Reverend Timothy P. Broglio, J.C.D, Archbishop for the Military Services, served as principal celebrant and ordaining Prelate before a congregation of more than two-thousand on a beautiful spring afternoon in Washington, DC.

Twenty-Two Men Gather for Discernment Retreat on Possible Vocations as U.S. Military Chaplains

MENLO PARK, CALIFORNIA—Twenty-two men including civilians and members of four service branches of the United States Armed Forces will gather here this weekend for a Feb. 28-March 3 discernment retreat aimed at helping them determine if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, (AMS), is conducting the annual retreat at St. Patrick’s Seminary. The prospective chaplain candidates include three from the Army; four from the Navy; ten from the Air Force; one from the Coast Guard; and four civilians.

Catholic Catechists in U.S. Military to Gather for Mid-Atlantic Congress

BALTIMORE—Sixty-six Catholic catechetical leaders based on United States Military installations throughout the eastern U.S. will gather in Baltimore, Md., this weekend for three days of training, fellowship, discussion, and prayer at the eighth annual Mid-Atlantic Congress (MAC). The Congress is co-sponsored by the Association of Catholic Publishers, which represents more than 60 Catholic publishers of books, music, videos, and other liturgical resources, and the Department of Evangelization of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The conference gives diocesan and parish staffs and volunteers an opportunity to explore current challenges in the areas of management, finances, human resources, and planning. MAC 2019 will take place at the Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor, 401 West Pratt Street. More than 1,300 are expected to participate in this year’s Congress, the theme of which is “Prophetic Discipleship.”

World Youth Day Draws U.S. Military Catholics to Panamá

WASHINGTON, DC— Among the hundreds of thousands of young people from 155 countries who took part in World Youth Day Jan. 22-27 in Panamá, a half-dozen U.S. Military members participated with the support of their chapel communities and the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, (AMS). Auxiliary Bishop Neal J. Buckon led the military young adult group, comprising servicemen and women from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, CA, and the Marine Corps Bases at Camp Lejeune, NC, and Camp Kinser on Okinawa, Japan.

The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, (AMS), is conducting the annual retreat Dec. 6-9 at the Pontifical College Josephinum. Among the prospective  candidates are more than a half-dozen men already serving in the United States Military, including four from the Army; two from the Navy; and two from the Air Force. WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), has officially kicked off its 2019 National Collection campaign. The collection, to be taken up in Catholic parishes throughout the United States at weekend Masses Nov. 9-10, 2019, will support pastoral care and ministry to Catholic families stationed worldwide in the U.S. Military, and Catholic patients in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers throughout the country and in Guam and Puerto Rico.

Team AMS Crosses Finish Line in 34th Annual Army Ten-Miler with Only $7,530 Left to Raise

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A charity team of 54 runners representing the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, (AMS), crossed the finish line in the 34th annual Army Ten-Miler on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, just $7,530 short of its $60,000 fundraising goal. Consequently, the AMS has decided to extend the donationperiod in hopes of reaching the target. Donors now have until Monday, Oct. 15, to make a gift.
