Pope Francis Calls on Christians to Join Lord’s Prayer Wednesday over Coronavirus Pandemic

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Pope Francis is calling on Christians everywhere to respond to the novel coronavirus pandemic by joining him in praying the Lord’s Prayer at 7:00 a.m. ET (noon in Rome) on Wednesday, March 25. That day marks the Feast of the Annunciation, when the faithful celebrate the angel Gabriel’s visitation to the Virgin Mary, announcing the Incarnation of the Word. The Holy Father offered the invitation on Sunday at the traditional recitation of the Angelus on St. Peter’s Square.

Twelve Men to Gather for Discernment Retreat on Possible Vocations as U.S. Military Chaplains

MENLO PARK, CA — Eight men from three service branches of the United States Armed Forces and four civilians will gather here this weekend for a March 12-15 discernment retreat aimed at helping them determine if they are called by the Holy Spirit to be Catholic priests and military chaplains. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), is conducting the annual retreat at St. Patrick’s Seminary. The prospective chaplain candidates include two from the Army; one from the Navy; five from the Air Force; and four civilians.

Our Sunday Visitor Institute Awards $23,940 for Young Adult Catholic Outreach in U.S. Military

WASHINGTON, DC – The Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) Institute of Huntington, IN, has awarded a $23,940 grant to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS), for the purpose of training young adult leaders to evangelize their non-practicing Catholic peers at U.S. Military installations. The grant will make it possible for the AMS to expand a pilot initiative it launched 18 months ago in partnership with Reach More™, an online coaching and training system of the Evangelical Catholic, a nonprofit specializing in Catholic ministry consulting and evangelization training.

Catholic Catechists in U.S. Military to Gather in Baltimore This Weekend for Mid-Atlantic Congress

BALTIMORE—More than two dozen Catholic catechetical leaders based on United States Military installations throughout the eastern U.S. will gather in Baltimore, Md., this  weekend for three days of training, fellowship, discussion, and prayer at the ninth annual Mid-Atlantic Congress (MAC). The Congress is co-sponsored by 20 Catholic organizations and publishers, including the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). It provides diocesan and parish staffs and volunteers a forum in which to explore current challenges in the common areas of faith formation, management, finances, human resources, and planning. MAC 2020 will take place at the Hilton Baltimore, 401 West Pratt Street. More than 1,000 are expected to participate in this year’s Congress.

Time Running Out to Apply for 2020 “Warriors to Lourdes” Spiritual Journey

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Time is running out for current and former U.S. Military personnel, including the wounded, ill, and injured, to apply for an all-expenses-paid, round-trip journey to Lourdes during the 62nd annual Pèlerinage Militaire International (PMI)—or “International Military Pilgrimage”—in May. All applications to join the “Warriors to Lourdes” (WTL) spiritual journey, May 12 to 19, must be received no later than Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Catholic Military Couples Gather in Assisi, Italy, for Marriage Enrichment Retreat

ASSISI, ITALY – Twenty Catholic couples based at U.S. Military installations throughout Germany and Italy spent the weekend here in the hometown of Saint  Francis of Assisi on a Marriage Enrichment Retreat sponsored by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA (AMS). The Dec. 6-8 retreat took place on a sunny hillside in Palazzo di Assisi, about an eight-minute drive from the center of town, at the local Diocesan Retreat Center, known as Villa Santa Tecla.
